Located just west of town by Greenhead College is Trinity Street, home of three of the best known fast food restaurants in all of Huddersfield. Ali & Sons have the pizza joint, Trinity Pizza, a chicken shop, Trinity Halal Fried Chicken, whose sign currently reads: "Trinity Hala Fred Chicken" and a fisheries, Trinity Fisheries. I took a trip to Trinity Pizza one rainy night after College.
Hala Fred. Pretty interesting to see an advert for the Qu'ran above the door
It was empty, other than the woman behind the counter and a lil bad man charva on his phone sat at one of the two plastic tables. The girl behind the counter was wearing attire similar to a butcher, or at least that's what I thought at the time, I took a look at the menu a little. I liked the feel of this joint, It was cocaine chic, a grimy place, but only in the Stormzy sense of the word, everything, from what I could tell was very clean and tidy.
I didn't have a clue what was going on on this menu, I've never seen anything like it. A fucking barrage of fonts, a total crazy scattering of colour and an odd layout made it a totally bizarre thing to order from, it was full of all these enigmas, I had more questions than answers; I could probably do a whole critique on the menu alone. I had to look at the menu above the woman serving me, the big one listing all the food, which was still a bit of a cluster-fuck. I managed to ask for a medium meat-feast: an interesting mixture of "spicy" chicken, keema, lamb and donner meat.
Pale colour, odd fonts, big spaces between words
Why does it say "trinitees"? why is there an apple in the logo?
Why does the first "P" in the word Pizza have an odd border around it?
Again with the fonts, but you can't argue with those prices,
even if they're not the most self-explanatory.
The back is a lot better, seems to have a style
As far as price goes, this was not a pricey pizza, I was very pleased to say even after a full day at college, where they charge almost £3 for a sandwich, I was still able to afford one of these meat-orgy pizzas. It's a good day when you can spend less that £5 on a meal and you end the rumblies in your tumbly, not like in any of the chain fast food shacks where you can order a burger, fries and a medium drink for about £5 and then want a bag of crisps 20 minutes later. I wasn't waiting for long either, to say the food is made fresh and cooked there and then right in front of your eyes it only took about 10 minutes.
I got to wondering about the drinks during this time... who buys them? who had the idea to sell them? where does a restaurant get such obscure drinks from? a four pack of glass bottles of Irn Bru? Where else can anyone find these? Beats me. I should have probably bought a singular drink so I could have commented on it, but, I stuck with just a bit of scran.
I took the food out to my Ford Fiesta I'd parked just around the corner, sat in the drivers seat and slid all the way back getting real comfy. I opened the box, the windows steamed up immediately. It stared at me, this yellow and red beast, thick as play-doh, but that's all you can ask of from a pizza. It was thick, and the cheese was fucking beautifully stringy. I lifted a slice to my mouth, the greasy smell of the donner and keema singed my nostril hairs. I bit into what felt like Beyonce's right thigh, it was real meaty; every bite was as satisfying as the last and it had a flavoursome buzz to it, electrifying in the sense that every bite makes you hungry for more.
I had some cheesy fries as well, I was actually surprised at how many I got, I only spent £1.50. When I opened up the styrofoam box the cheese was already melted and the chips were utterly covered, you know when you usually get cheesy chips and there's just a scattering of grated cheese on top of a pile of french fries? this was not the case, it looked glorious: golden fries, cooked to perfection and pale long stringy mozzarella coating and filling all of the nooks and cracks in between each french fry, the taste was great, the chips weren't very greasy and the potato really came alive under a smothering of chewy cheese, when I bit into each fry, there was a super soft bite followed by a completely satisfying crunch.
I was filled up on heavenly soft bread, cheese, potato and a selection of Asian meats, it was a good day
Overall:
